Sauti Zetu: When Communities Speak, Health Systems Must Listen

📅 2024-10-22 ✍️ Judith, Board Member ⏱ 5 min read

Too often, the people most affected by health system failures are the least heard in decisions about how to fix them. Sauti Zetu — Our Voices — exists to change that. Through structured community dialogue, advocacy training, and direct engagement with health authorities, we ensure that the experiences and priorities of ordinary community members shape the services meant to serve them.

What We Have Learned

Running Sauti Zetu has taught us that communities already know what they need. They know which health workers treat them with dignity and which do not. They know which facility is worth the journey and which one turns them away. They know which health messages resonate and which ones miss the mark. Our role is to create safe spaces for these insights to be heard — and to build the bridges that connect community voices to decision-makers.

When we started speaking up at facility meetings, things slowly began to change. The waiting times improved. The staff started greeting us by name. Small things, but they matter. — Community Advocate, Uganda
