The philosophy behind our COCOBA training program is simple but radical: the best health workers are the ones who are already part of the community they serve. They speak the language, they understand the culture, they are trusted by their neighbors. Our job is to equip them with knowledge and skills that amplify what they already bring.
What the Training Covers
Over a series of intensive modules, COCOBA participants learn evidence-based maternal and newborn care practices, how to recognize and respond to danger signs in pregnancy and childbirth, community mobilization and health promotion techniques, data collection and record keeping, and how to link community members with health facility services.
The training changed how I see my role. I am not just a health worker — I am a leader in my community. — Participant, Dodoma
Results from the Field
In areas where COCOBA-trained workers are active, we consistently see higher rates of antenatal care attendance, earlier identification of high-risk pregnancies, faster referral to health facilities, and stronger community engagement with health programs. The evidence is clear: investing in community capacity saves lives.
