Our Maternal and Child Health Program is the cornerstone of TenderHands' work. We believe that every mother deserves safe, dignified care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period — and that every child deserves a healthy start in life.
What We Do
Working in partnership with local health facilities and community health workers, we provide comprehensive antenatal care visits, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) training for health workers, postnatal follow-up visits, and family planning counseling and services.
Before TenderHands came to our facility, we had no trained midwife. Now we have three, and mothers come from villages far away because they trust us. — District Health Officer, Tanzania
Our Approach
We train and support Community Health Workers (CHWs) who serve as the vital link between health facilities and the communities they serve. Each CHW undergoes rigorous training in maternal health, newborn care, and referral protocols, and is equipped with essential supplies to deliver care at the community level.
Our EmONC training program has equipped over 200 healthcare providers with the skills to manage life-threatening obstetric emergencies — significantly reducing preventable maternal deaths in the areas we serve.
